This is a really cool thing.

The belt itself is well-made, though. “Ba-dump”: It doesn’t “Ba-dump” over the seam. I haven’t had it long, but it looks strong.

That substance was hard to put on, so I didn’t use it very often. Some of it was just a little too crumbly. At first, more of it broke and turned into dust or crumbs than went on the belt. The trick I found was to put just a little bit of vegetable oil on the block of abrasive. It’s wax/oil based, so I think it worked. Because the surface was softened, the belt could pick up some and get it into the surface.

It can sharpen just about anything, as long as you know how to do it first. Make the blade very sharp by hand before using this belt and compound. Then hone it to a fare-thee-well with this belt and this compound.

I sharpened kitchen knives, a plane iron, and a chisel with this belt on the work-sharp. All of them were done with this belt. Because I got the chisel’s edge so sharp, it went right through a leather work glove, so be careful.

Excellent. Buy one now.
