Bought a very good condition, used one from Amazon Warehouse at substantial discount (the ONLY reason why I bought it as I’m not a fan of Chinese made tools at all). This drill is made in China (for those who still wonder). When I opened the box, I discovered a large amount of oil leaking from the gearbox. Everything appears to be in working order after I opened the screws holding the gearbox to the body and reseated the seal. Milwaukee has become more cost-effective with their tools in recent years (even though they continue to charge the same price to customers). The jaws of the chuck are no longer carbide-lined, but are instead made of plain steel. That didn’t matter to me because I replaced the chuck with a 1/2 inch chuck “In any case, LFA chuck. This drill has a 1/2″-20 spindle thread, which means that it will accept nearly all 1/2” and larger chucks that you may want to replace it with in the future. This machine has adequate power and speed (7 amps and 1200 rpm) for the job that I have for it. The three-star rating is based on the oil-leaking seal experience.

I’ve only had this for a few days and haven’t even used it yet, so don’t take my words for it at this point in time. This is just a quick post to share my initial thoughts on the drill. I kind of regret not purchasing it at the time when almost all Milwaukee tools were manufactured in either the United States, Japan, or Germany.

Update (March 18, 2012).

So far, it appears to be in good condition. Chuck’s ability to maintain focus is commendable. The drill has a lot of power for a 3/8-inch bit “a wide rang. A respectable high-speed drill (1200 RPMs). Despite the fact that it was manufactured in China, it retains the “Made in USA” quality feel. As a result, I have increased the rating to four stars (previously 3 stars.

The only way to know if it will last is to wait and see.
