I knew right away that it would be messy. For $50-$60, what do you want. Among the things I didn’t know about but thought I could improve on is the accuracy. Knowing that it was going to be cheap, I thought that the accuracy would be bad. Fortunately, it isn’t.

The only real problem with this is how the compound vise is moved. Both screws go through brass pins. The bolts can move around a lot because they are all on their own.

Instead of having someone else make me a new drum, I made my own.

I drilled both drums at the same time, one on top of the other, to keep them aligned. Then I tapped them. I used a screw to connect both drums, tighten them down, and put the now one-piece compound adjusting drum back into the machine.

A thousandth of an inch, with no play, no slop. If you can make this change, I think this is a great piece of art. To do the mod, it took me no more than 30 minutes. To put it back together, it took me a little longer because I don’t read the instructions when I disassemble or assemble things.
