Description of the Produc.

The Palmgren 3 ton Ratcheting Arbor Press enables the operator to keep the arm in the optimal leverage position while applying consistent force to the workpiece with the press. In addition, it provides more clearance above the table for broaching or pressing large items with greater ease. Counterweights are used to ensure that the handle returns quickly, and the press’s side-mounted handwheel allows for quick ram advancement. Produces the massive force required for riveting, squeezing, punching, bending, and other pressing operations. The anvil, which is made of machined steel and can be removed, provides accurate work support in four slot positions. The depth of the ram stroke is precisely controlled by a fine adjustment screw with a lockable locking mechanism. The ram is made of rugged steel and is driven by a machined piston with dimensions of 1 14 x 1 14 inch. With the help of a magnetic insert, it is possible to attach punches or tools to the end of the ram. With one end solid and the other end featuring a hole and magnet to hold bits and tools, the ram can be used in either direction. The rugged strength provided by the cast-iron construction is ideal for more demanding jobs. There are predrilled holes for mounting on a bench or pedestal, and the base has been machined to accommodate the three bit set that comes with the kit. The bit set includes three bits: a pointed bit, a round bit, and a square end bit, as well as a steel anvil that can be removed. The removable anvil has a diameter of 8 inches and is made of steel.

The Manufacturer’s Statemen.

0.0002 inch precision ground for squareness and parallelism, with tolerances of =/-0.0002 inch per inch. On all five sides of this vise, it has been machined and ground to ensure accurate positioning for grinding and layout operations. The vise’s adjustment screws are made of steel and have a long bearing in the vise body. Fine grain cast iron with a tensile strength of 30,000 PSI is used to construct this product. Both jaws have been ground to a smooth finish.

This press is well-built and durable, and the additional height allows it to be used in a variety of applications not possible with other 3 ton presses. There is one significant, but easily remediable flaw. According to the instructions, the four guide screws for the ram should be adjusted so that it does not collapse under its own weight. Due to the fact that the ram is not perfectly machined and that the guide screws have no give in them, it will be impossible to operate it with the hand wheel without it binding. The problem was solved by the simple installation of a flat spring, which would have added only two dollars to the cost of manufacturing. I’m just disappointed that the manufacturer didn’t see fit to include a similar feature in the original design of the product.
