The 4-in-1 sander provides the greatest amount of versatility for a wide range of sanding tasks.

The most effective dust collection is achieved by using mouse paper with holes.

This sander sounded fantastic on paper, but after using it for a couple of weeks, I’ve decided to return it and replace it with another. Perhaps the Black and Decker development team and their engineering team were so pleased with themselves and the fact that they had created four sanders in one that they completely forgot to put it through its paces before releasing it. Because there were flaws in the product after it was taken out of the box that would have been obvious through testing.

The disc sander has a reasonable amount of sanding power to offer. I haven’t used it as a finishing sander yet because it requires the use of Black & Decker mouse hook and loop papers, which are quite expensive and difficult to find. I made the mistake of assuming that the finishing attachment would be equipped with clips, just like every other attachment on the planet, and that you would be able to use regular sanding paper with it to keep costs down while also having the option of using higher grit paper if desired. Wrong. However, this is not the most serious offense committed by this mouse; the dust collector is completely worthless. When I was finished sanding a TV stand, my garage was covered in a thick layer of dust, despite the fact that the main door and the back door were both open for ventilation. However, there was only about a tablespoon of dust collected in the dust collector. Now, if this were a massive media center that took the entire day, I could understand the amount of dust that was everywhere. However, this is not the case. Also, I should have left more dust in the collector; I may have even needed to empty it once or twice while I was away. Other than the fact that the dust collector port isn’t round, there is another issue with it. That means you won’t be able to attach it to a vacuum to assist in sucking up the dust. And after all of that, I don’t believe B&D put the handle portion through its paces because it is virtually unusable. The top of the sander leans slightly in the direction of the handle, which makes it easier to use with the on/off switch between your thumb and forefinger of your dominant hand, which makes it more comfortable to hold. Because it is so difficult to use two hands simultaneously, one over the sander and one holding it on the hand, you must either place your dominant hand on the handle of the main unit or choke up on the main unit until your hands are touching, which is extremely uncomfortable.

If you do not require the use of a detail sander, I do have a solution for you. Purchase two orbital disc sanders; there is a good selection available for less money that will perform just as well and collect significantly more dust than a single disc sander. After that, purchase a finishing sander, making certain that it is equipped with clips for regular sand paper. I understand your concern that this will be more expensive, and you are correct in the short term. However, by purchasing regular sand paper rather than the ones designed specifically for this sander, you will save a significant amount of money. Remember to double-check any sanders that you are considering purchasing to ensure that they have a dust collector that can be connected to a vacuum cleaner in case the sander itself fails to collect dust.
