I’ve been using Molly bolts for more than 50 years and had no idea that such a tool existed until now. In my search for large size Mollys, I came across this one and knew I had to give it a shot. As anyone who has ever used a Molly in drywall knows, tightening the screw to engage the anchor frequently results in torn drywall as the small anchor points twist as the screw is turned to engage the anchor to the wall. Often, this will cause enough damage to the drywall to prevent the installation from going smoothly. The pull with this tool, on the other hand, is completely straight with no twisting involved. I used this tool to make twenty-six 3/8-inch holes “Mollys, and every single one of them, was perfectly anchored. It was only one Molly (#27) that was ruined: it was the one I used to demonstrate how the tool worked to my contractor, who had never seen it before.
In any case, after pulling 27 Mollys, the tool shows no signs of fatigue and appears to be capable of pulling many more in the future. The price was very reasonable, and the fact that not a single anchor failed was well worth the peace of mind that it brought me with it.
Although it is not a tool I anticipate using on a regular basis, it is well worth having for the next large wall hanging project!
