Upon arrival, it was still in its original factory box, layered with shaped Styrofoam, only a few pieces of which were still intact. There was a large non-functional dent in the sheet metal cover of the motor starter, as well as some paint chipping. Although the box took a beating due to the weight of this unit, the packing did the majority of the job. The machining of the table, column, and other components was fairly sloppy. Although the table’s height can be locked down, there is some side to side movement. When I first started it, the sound it made while running was alarming, but I don’t believe it is a serious problem; I believe it is just belts and bearings making a little noise. After reading the instructions, I realized that either my unit was an open box unit or that the factory performs more assembly than indicated in the instructions because I initially thought I had missing parts but later discovered that the table elevation mechanism had already been installed. It appears to be in good working order, but I did not install an indicator on it. When I was drilling holes, it was a real pleasure to have a stationary drill press instead of having to use a handheld drill to do everything because it was so much faster. I’ll say it again: this is a monstrous beast. For the purpose of raising it onto a stand, I used a block and tackle; I do not recommend attempting to lift it yourself.
