Makita 193794-5 is a metric tool. Extraction of Dus. Grinder Cutting Guard – 4-1/2″ – 5″ in length, with shoe. This helps to protect the tool operator as well as the surrounding area from flying debris.
I used this in my shower tile demo about 2 months ago, so my recollection is a little hazy on the details. I estimate that when connected to my 5hp shop vac, it reduced dust by 80-95 percent, according to my calculations. It was a glaring difference that everyone could see. I used it to cut lengths down my shower surround every 24 inches, which made it easier to use my crowbar to peel the wire mesh holding the 2 inch thick cement and tile to the wall studs, which was holding the cement and tile in place. I know there is a significant difference in dust because I had to stop using my angle grinder for the shower and use it for another task that did not require the use of the dust shroud, so I removed it; when I returned to grind more tile, cement, and wire mesh, I attempted to finish the small section of the shower that was still unfinished without the use of the dust shroud. Wow. There was a ton of dust. It’s possible I wouldn’t have done it if I had realized how much dust it would have created.
Another feature is the depth gauge, which I didn’t use because it was unnecessary; however, if not cutting too deeply is an important consideration, this toll provides another option.
In the third place, nothing is perfect, so this product still receives 5 stars, but the adjustment screw that secures the shroud to my angle grinder is difficult to reach with certain screwdriver lengths and shaft thicknesses.
Another plus is that I didn’t have to purchase a hose adapter (I believe it is a 1 and 1/4 inch) because it came with an attachment already installed.
