Despite the fact that it has a 4-pole motor built by Makita for faster cutting, the XSJ01Z is only 5.3 lbs. (with battery, which is sold separately) for better control when cutting sheet metal, including steel and stainless steel. Excellent shears. I purchased this tool in order to assist my father in repairing several sheds that had been damaged by a tornado. It was necessary to replace a significant amount of the roofing metal/tin. Straight cuts are made quickly and easily with this tool, which also cuts cleanly. During the cutting process, the tool does remove a thin metal strip from the workpiece. This is probably beneficial in preventing it from warping the metal around it as it cuts. It does not perform well when cutting across the ridges. The majority of the cross cuts had to be completed with a metal cut circular saw blade (a nibbler would have also worked). In the end, I chose this tool over a nibbler solely on the basis of price and the amount of the type of work we would be doing. Makita tools are some of my favorites, and this tool is no exception. I would suggest it.
