It is necessary to delete bad reviews; by this I mean that the reviews themselves are deplorable. This is a fantastic piece of equipment. However, I am not going to say that one or two people on this forum did not obtain an inferior machine, but rather than writing a negative review, they should have returned it and obtained another machine. Every manufactured item is subject to the occasional problem with quality control. Grizzly is a name you can rely on, and the company’s customer service is excellent.
You’re in good company with plastic gears. I’ve read several reviews that say this machine is a joke because it has plastic gears, and I believe them. The plastic gears, on the other hand, are there for your benefit. A mistake can result in the gears breaking rather than something more expensive. Because you can replace the entire gear set for less than $40, this is actually a positive development. But don’t be concerned. These gears are extremely durable and will not break easily. If you do manage to break one, it means that you did something wrong and the gear broke in order to save the machine.
Remove the factory lubricant and replace it with your own. Lubricate the ways as well as the carriage gears. I was having some issues with the carriage binding, but a little oil fixed the problem and everything was perfect.
I didn’t have any issues, but some people have complained about a loose bolt here and there. Take your time and thoroughly inspect the machine. Grizzly provides wrenches to tighten any loose bolts that may be present, as well as tools to assemble the machine itself. A small amount of assembly is required.
