Many years ago, I purchased the Ryobi One 4-piece kit with NiCad batteries as a temporary solution until I could justify spending more money on a contractor brand such as Milwaukee, Makita, or Dewalt, which I eventually did. To be completely honest, the tools surprised me with their durability and have far outlasted and outperformed any expectations I had going into the project. I’ve used these tools to construct dozens of decks, sheds, and countless other remodeling projects. I’ve abused them in every way I could think of and put them to use in ways they were never meant to be put to use. Despite the fact that these are homeowner-grade tools, I treated them as if they were contractor-grade tools. As a result of years of abuse, the circular saw finally gave up the ghost, making a tremendous amount of noise while still functioning properly. I got this replacement saw for next to nothing, and even if it only lasts half as long as the original, it was still a good deal. The ryobi NiCad batteries are serviceable, but they do have limitations, as demonstrated when I pushed them too hard, resulting in a loud pop and smoke emanating from the abused NiCad battery. The tool survived, but the battery did not, as shown in the video below. I’ve since switched to Lithium batteries, but I still have some NiCad batteries in the mix for backup.

. Although this is considered a trim saw, I have found myself reaching for it over my trusted Skill HD77 worm-drive over the years because of the convenience and weight savings. Is this comparable in power to the worm drive I’m currently using. It is not even close to being underpowered, but it is far from being as underpowered as a couple of reviewers have claimed. Those who left negative reviews must have been using old, depleted batteries that had reached the end of their useful life. Also, the “Ah” rating of the battery will determine how long it will last. Ryobi sells Lithium batteries ranging from 1.5 Ah to 4 Ah, while the Ni-Cad batteries are 1.5 Ah.
