Despite the fact that this grinder is a beast, the guard has some serious issues. Throughout the day, I work in a pipe welding shop and use a variety of grinders to complete my tasks. I purchased this one primarily for use with polyfans, as opposed to my 6” fan “Metabo is a cutting and major grinding tool that can be used. In particular, I like that the body of this one is easier to hold with one hand and that it is lighter, which is useful when prepping small fittings. The guard is ill-conceived, and the vibrations will cause the nubs on the grinder to wear away prematurely. I’ve had mine for a year, and the guard is about to come loose from it. It’s a big deal because I can’t use a grinder without a guard or else I risk getting fired. Unfortunately, I did not complete the warranty registration card, so I am unable to take advantage of that option. I ran into a problem while trying to locate a replacement bearing plate (the part with the nubs to which the guard is attached)…… This model was created specifically for the Canadian market, and I have been unable to locate a source for the parts. It’s extremely frustrating because the grinder itself is fantastic, but I’m unable to make use of it. I believe that the bearing plate is made of magnesium. There has never been a time when that has been done in my shop, but I might just get some magnesium TIG rod and try to rebuild the nubs that are messed up because I haven’t been able to figure out how to use a different manufacturer’s guard on the thing yet. In the event that you purchase this item, you must complete the warranty card.
In addition, I forgot to mention that the picture does not correspond to the model number when it comes to the RT. The grip I received (and desired) is a barrel grip rather than a rat tail.
