For approximately 2 years, the unit I purchased performed admirably. Because it was only used once or twice a month on average, it was satisfactory.

Due to a faulty pressure relief valve, the unit did not shut down properly in July of this year, however. That is a straightforward fix. When I was trying to blow out water from my sprinkler system today, it made a loud noise, as shown in the attached video. I’d heard about this before, but I didn’t pay attention because I assumed it would go away. It now sounds as if the motor is about to blow up completely.

I’ve reached out to the manufacturer and will provide an update.

Update: I spoke with customer service, and the representative provided me with a link to a video that demonstrated how to open the cylinder top. Everything on the surface appeared to be in order. He informed me that if the problem originates below the cylinder, it will be the motor. It will cost more to replace the motor than it will to replace the entire unit. According to the video, there isn’t much that can be done at this point. I’m going to be shopping for a new air compressor with oil lube, and it will not be a California Air product, I promise you that.

Update: Following the submission of this video, a representative from California Air contacted me to discuss a replacement or exchange. I’ll keep this review up to date as time goes on.

Last update: After reviewing all of the information, the representative informed me that the product was no longer under warranty. Now it’s time to look for a new air compressor, which I will do right away. It is not going to be a California Air,
