I finally took the plunge and bought a haled Dynabrade to try out. At first, I thought I’d made a clerical error. I tried using 100 grit with this, but it had no effect on anything. I discovered that this is a finish snader intended for use with 150 grit or finer grained paper. This is the 3/32 of a percent “The middle orbit is the most important. WOW, put some 150-220 on this and you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can get it to be so smooth and consistent. Very easy to maneuver, extremely light, and extremely comfortable. We used it to finish some table tops, and when we held them up to the light, we couldn’t believe what we were seeing. I’ve never achieved such a fine finish with my electric RO sanders before, nor have I done so in such a short period of time.
I’m going to purchase the 3/8 orbit sander to replace the aggressive sander and can’t wait to put it to use.
It takes a lot of air to do this. I’m using a 16CFM IR large 2 stage compressor to power this, and it’s running almost constantly, but it’s doing a good job of keeping up.
