I am primarily a woodworker, but I needed to cut some metal to repair my lumber rack, which I had never done before. My old cutoff saw is a noisy and less-than-accurate cutting device, so I purchased this saw to replace it. It was ordered on a Wednesday and delivered by 12 p.m. on the following day. Knowing that it did not come with blades (really, Milwaukee didn’t even include one crappy blade?) after reading the reviews, I already had a couple 10/14 blades on hand and was able to put it to use immediately. As many have pointed out, these saws are monstrous machines. Cut through 13 ga. (3/32″) and 1/4″ plate steel like butter with no effort. When using any tool, it is recommended that you make a few practice cuts before using it for any important work, and this saw is no exception. My first few cuts brought back vivid memories of my adolescent years. The cuts were quick, but they were all over the place. The saw felt a little awkward in my hands, but it was perfectly balanced. However, after a few cuts and about 15 minutes, I had a good feel for the saw and knew how to use it properly.

FIT AND FINISH (5 stars), with a small rant added i.

Milwaukee has outsourced the production of this machine to a Chinese manufacturer. Many people express dissatisfaction with Asian manufacturing; however, the poor quality that results is not the fault of the “foreign workers,” but rather the fault of the companies and the specifications they set in order to reduce costs. Milwaukee has maintained their high standards on this tool, as evidenced by the high quality of the materials, fit and finish. Despite being flexible, the black plasticized rubber covers provide strength. While I haven’t put them through a 25-foot drop test, they have survived falling off my 42-inch-high workbench and onto concrete.

Despite the fact that I’ve only had this tool for one week, if any of my other Milwaukee tools are any indication, I’ll be keeping this tool in my inventory for many years to come.

SUITABILITY FOR PURPOSE (5 stars.

The majority of the manual is devoted to standard safety information, with approximately 1.5 pages devoted to information about the pieces and parts, as well as instructions on how to change the blades. The blades are very simple to replace (it takes about 30-45 seconds), and the tracking is incredible.. it’s as simple as plugging it in and playing. This saw is the simplest of the bunch, with only two speeds: high and low. There are no lights, bells, or whistles. It is possible that I will come to regret not purchasing the variable speed lighted version, but for the time being, it meets all of my requirements.

Be aware that if you have never used a handheld power tool before, you may experience some difficulty with this one. Users of handheld power tools should be able to make a few practice cuts before unleashing the confetti of chipping.
