I had just replaced the bag when it began to make an unusual noise without producing much suction, leading me to believe that the bag had not been properly installed. I turned it off, checked to make sure everything was in working order, then turned it back on and immediately noticed a burning smell. As soon as I opened the back, there was black soot all over the inside. I took it home and cleaned it.
