I’ve had this tool for approximately 9 months at this point. For my purposes, which are mostly off-and-on odd jobs around the house and in my workshop, it’s a pretty good tool overall. Unlike some other reviewers, I have not noticed it becoming excessively hot while in use; it does become warm, but I attribute this to simply being a natural result of prolonged use – I have quite a few power tools and a couple of high-quality brand drills that become warm when in use for an extended period of time.
It comes with a nice set of accessories, and up until now, I’ve only used the grinding stones, sanding bands, and drill bits, all of which have performed admirably for the jobs for which they were intended. However, this past weekend, while tinkering around in my workshop, I came across a couple of accessories that required the use of a mandrel and discovered that there were no mandrels included with the accessories. They included a couple dozen grinding, sanding, and buffing discs, which would be useful, but they did not include mandrels, which would allow them to be utilized. It’s strange how things work out. I’m not sure if this was an oversight and they should have been included but weren’t in the set I received, but I didn’t realize they weren’t until I needed to use the discs and realized they weren’t there. In order to complete the set and obtain the mandrels, I’m going to have to spend a little more money in order to make use of the accessories. It’s convenient to have a rotary tool on hand, and this is a respectable tool, but Gyros could have done a lot better by including all of the parts required to use the accessories that were included.
Because of the durability of the plastic case, it can easily hold the tool, as well as all of the accessories and attachments, allowing you to keep everything together and avoid losing any pieces. Using the tool holder and flex shaft when doing fine, close work has proven to be extremely convenient for me because I only have to hold the end of the shaft with the bit, grinding stone or sanding drum and not the entire tool while holding the piece I’m working on in my other hand makes it much easier. Furthermore, the cutting guide has proven to be extremely useful in ensuring that my cuts are more straight than when I cut freehand.
Overall, I would give this tool a rating of 4 stars, but I deducted one star for the lack of mandrels. However, I am not dissatisfied with my purchase of this tool.
