They are completely ineffective. I attempted to grind some mortar joints, but the effort was largely in vain. Friction cannot be generated by the small disks because there is not enough back and forth movement between them. Because the disks are only 2-1/2 inches in diameter, the total distance between the center of the oscillating multi-tool and the disks is only 1-1/4 inches. The diamond portion of the ring moves very little as a result of this. If the rings were 5 inches in diameter, there would be more movement, and the system would function better as well. I believe this item: ZFE Diamond segment saw blade coated on both sides for Rockwell Fein Bosch Ryobi Dremel Makita Multimaster Multifunction Tools would be more appropriate because the cutting part appears to be approximately 3 inches from the center of the saw blade (I have not tried these). The greater the distance between the cutting surface and the center, the greater the amount of movement you have, which is exactly what is required for an oscillating multi-tool to function properly.
