A note to help clear up some of the confusion about all of the different DeWalt cordless tool options that are out there now. You can choose from a lot of different things, but the differences aren’t always clear, so this will help.

They call the 20V Max systems “20V” to make them stand out from the 18V systems, which have a lot less power. It’s just more difficult to say “18V, high capacity” than it is to say “20V. Each one is about 20V when fully charged with no load.

I think the XR driver has a lot of speeds, and the others only have one speed. Because it has a variable speed trigger, I have never used any of the lower speeds because I can slow it down if I need to.
I’ve been using the XR drill for about a year now, but I wanted a driver so I didn’t have to change bits between drilling and driving screws all the time. I didn’t know how much faster these tools would drive a screw in. Peak rpm is much faster than with a drill, but the impact function also gives it more torque for driving, so it can do more work at once. This is what I did to show you how it worked. I put the screw through a 4×4. As soon as I used a long driver bit, I was able to drive a screw all the way through a board and out on the other side without any trouble at all. The size of this tool is very impressive for what it does.
Because the batteries have to be bought separately, they are very pricey if you do that. Buying just the batteries and charger that come with this driver would cost more than this product, so keep that in mind when you need batteries. On EBay or Craig’s List, you can always sell a spare driver.
