The 3MTM Elite Air-Powered Random Orbital Sander 28517 is equipped with a self-generated vacuum (SGV), which allows it to provide professional dust-free performance and a swirl-free finish hour after hour in high-production industrial environments where dust extraction is mandatory. Designed to optimize the performance of 3MTM abrasives, this best-in-class tool from 3M comes with a 6″ diameter for broader coverage and a 3/32″ orbit, which makes it particularly well suited for use with fine-grade finishing discs (sold separately). Made possible by a powerful 0.28 HP precision-balanced motor and a durable lightweight aluminum housing, this ergonomically designed workhorse is tough enough to handle industrial production while reducing user fatigue for long periods of time.

The Elite SGV sander is a critical component of the 3MTM Clean Sanding system, which includes the SGV tool, Clean Sanding disc pad, and Clean Sanding disc (all of which are sold separately). The system is designed to effectively eliminate dust from the workpiece and surrounding space. It makes use of the inlet air to create its own venturi vacuum, which extracts dust from the work surface and expels it through a large collection port on the back of the tool into a 3MTM filter bag, which can be replaced. The 3M Clean Sanding filter bag that comes with the tool achieves superior HEPA-rated dust collection thanks to an air filter inside the bag that locks dust away and effectively retains it for disposal, while also being easy to clean.

How to Make Use of Your Pneumatic Sande.

This tool is designed to be used as a handheld device and is powered by compressed air. The air compressor must be capable of supplying a clean, lubricated air supply at an airflow rate of 17 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM), or 481 liters per minute (LPM), and 90 pounds per square inch (psi) at the tool, which is the point at which the air hose is connected to the tool, when the tool is running and with the level fully depressed when the level is fully depressed. Airline with a maximum length of 25 feet that has been approved for 3/8 inch (10 mm) diameter and the shortest length required for the application is highly recommended (8 m). Please refer to the Instruction Manual for more information on how to connect the tool to your air supply. At 90 psi, the maximum rotational speed is 12,000 rpm.

This is not a long-term solution. This sander has been in my possession for three years. When I first got it, I thought it was incredible. It left a beautiful surface in its wake. After about a year of infrequent use, it began to leave swirl marks on the surface of the water tank. It simply hasn’t held up as well as a sander of this caliber should have. I’m completely dissatisfied with it. The Bosch electric sanders are the only ones I’m going to use from now on.
