Buy Hitachi WH18DL Lithium-Ion 18-Volt Cordless Impact Driver (Discontinued by manufacturer)

More information can be found here.

I am in love with my new impact driver, which is the first of its kind that I have ever owned. I have an 18-volt Hitachi drill with Ni-MH batteries that I only use for drilling these days because the impact driver is so much better at driving screws than the drill. When using an impact driver rather than a regular drill, it is much easier to keep the bit from slipping on the screw head, and it is also much easier to hold because there is less twisting force. It is also shorter (in the direction of the drill bit) than the conventional impact driver, making it much easier to maneuver it into tight spaces.

The impact driver also performs admirably with boring bits; the impacts appear to send wood chips flying in all directions, and it feels noticeably faster than my regular drill, which I appreciate.

Because the Li-Ion battery from this impact driver (it came with 2) is so much lighter than the Ni-MH batteries that came with the drill, I’ve begun to use it in my drill as well as the impact driver. The Li-Ion battery weighs 1.57 lbs, compared to 2.35 lbs for the Ni-MH battery with the same 3.0 Ah capacity, which feels significantly better in the hand.
