More info about make air compressor from engine

Yes one could get a “Spark plug pump” and screw it in to the spark plug hole and have a compressor, but the valves in the motor will only allow it to pump on one out of two strokes,. Here is a Google search for air compressors under $150, many under $75,air compressor – Google Search. The other factor is most check valves are not desigend to handle the heat that is created by a compressor head, air compressors use reed vales or disk valves normaly, and I think you would have spring and seat/seal failues if used much,.

It is possible to build an air compressor from a V8 engine. Disabling one side of the V8 engine will basically make it into a 4 cylinder engine. The compressed air from the engine will be very hot and may contain engine oil.

Measure the diameter of the valve stem, divide by 2, square it, mutiply times 3.1416, subtract from the area of the valve. Most simple poppet style check valve have a 1/8″ NPT unloader port on the bottom of them which could be hooked up to a copper line and attached to a needle valve on the pressure switch. Crude valves will have no way to unload. The compressor will blow off the tank safety valve when delivered CFM exceeds demand.

If using a vee engine the best is to stagger cylinders. 2 alternate cylinders per bank for compressor, 2 alternate for self powering the engine, that is, every other cylinder on a bank. The four pumping cylinders had a special adaption at intake manifold so they pulled in atmospheric air.

They had a poppet valve arrangement that would let air from the cylinder out, then the poppet would seal when the piston went down in the cylinder and a set of flap valves would let the piston suck in fresh air from the atmosphere for the second stroke. It worked really well, and in order to even out the surges of air from the piston, I ran the air into a peice of 4″ diameter steel well casing with endplates welded into it to act as a surge chamber, then took a line from that to my spray gun. I cobbled up my own safety valve with a spring arrangement which I adjusted to bleed off anything in excess of 50 PSI, and bought an “Air bleed” type spray gun to use with it.

Can you turn an engine into an air compressor?

A custom camshaft and manifolds should be all the major parts needed to turn an engine completely into an air compressor. Basically you would be converting it into a 2-stroke. A 6CT will take a lot of power to run, I’d bet a 6BT would be needed to run it 1:1 at high RPM/pressure. Maybe a 4BT if reduction drive is used.

Can you run an air compressor from a car?

Yes, it could. You could compress the air at your house using an air compressor, fill a compressed-air tank in the car, and the car could run off of it. You could use an engine very similar to a steam engine (using pressurized air instead of pressurized steam) to convert the compressed air to rotational energy.

How do you convert a diesel engine to a steam engine?

The conversion process replaces a cylinder head of the Diesel engine with a steam jacketed, poppet valve steam cylinder head. Further, a roots blower, as part of the Diesel engine system, is replaced with a high vacuum condenser. The resulting converted Diesel to steam engine operates at high volumetric efficiency.

What parts do I need for an air compressor?

Air compressor parts are also similar to a small gas engine. They consist of a piston, connecting rod, crankshaft, cylinder, and valve head.

Can you run an air compressor off a car battery?

Compressor will run better due to higher voltage and will run till you run out of gas and the battery dies. Engine off, battery will drain and you may not be able to start your vehicle.

Can you use a tire inflator as an air compressor?

Technically, yes, a portable 12V tire inflator is an air compressor. However, it doesn’t have a tank to store compressed air, nor does it have the ability to power pneumatic tools.

Can compressed air be used as fuel?

Unfortunately, air alone can’t be used as a fuel. First, energy has to be stored in it by squeezing the air tightly using a mechanical air compressor. Once the compressed air is released, it expands. This expanding air can be used, for example, to drive the pistons that power an engine.

Can AA C compressor be used as an air compressor?

The three most common A/C compressors converted to onboard air systems are the Sanden, York, and occasionally, the Harrison R4. Although there are some scroll-type A/C compressors that don’t use pistons to compress the refrigerant, our understanding is that they won’t work for onboard air conversions.

Will an AC compressor compress air?

A motor powers the compressor, which is itself constructed like a motor, with a cylinder and piston. The compressor compress the gaseous refrigerant, and this raises the refrigerant’s temperature so that changes it into a high pressure gas.

Can a gas engine be converted to steam?

Re: Convert gas engine to steam?? You would need to: 1) Change the camshaft to open all the valves at BDC to use them as exhaust valves. 2) Change the camshaft gearing to one to one, or use a double lobe camshaft design. Very easy if the cam is chain driven.

Can you put a steam engine in a car?

However, modern materials mean that steam-powered cars could be as light as their regular cousins. With advanced condensers and modern flash boilers, it could be possible to build an efficient, light and viable steam car with a warm-up time of seconds rather than minutes.
