I’ve used power planers on the job since the 1970s, and I don’t think I’ve ever used one that didn’t work well. Some 30 years ago, I still have the 4 3/8″ Makita planer I bought when I was younger. It was because the price of carbide blades for my Makita was so high that I bought this one instead. Based on good reviews on Amazon and the low price, I chose the Porter Cable because I thought it would be a good buy. I can’t say for sure how long this product will last because I’ve only had it for about a year. It works just as well as my Makita and other brands like Bosch and Milwaukee that I use all the time in the field. It doesn’t make sense to pay a lot more for power planers from brands that aren’t as well-known. You will get a lot of value for your money.
