A blade is used to cut metal. This is my first saw with a blade. My neighbor has lent me his saw with an abrasive wheel for the last few years. It was better than my hand-held saws. However, on my last welding project, I had to cut several 1/4-inch-thick square tubing sections to be square and to be 1/8 inches off. It came close, but it still took a lot of time on the grinding wheel to get it to fit. So, I bought my own saw.
It was after I read all the reviews that I chose this Evolution. The Evolution model has quick-setting fences and miters, but if I were working in a fabrication shop, I would have spent the extra $100 and bought the one with the quick-setting parts. But for my home shop, I don’t need to quickly change a lot of different things. There’s also the allen wrench you’ll need to loosen the fence, change the blade, or do any other thing. It’s in a little holder at the front of the machine. In addition, this model comes with a blade that can cut through steel and wood.
This saw is amazing when it comes to cutting. Did I get rid of the Evolution blade? I did, and I bought a Diablo 75-tooth Steel Demon from Amazon. Why. If I can, I want to use my Evolution blade to cut aluminum and wood instead. I’ve been looking for a miter saw for a long time that would cut through a 4×4 or 6×6 without me having to turn the wood over and try to match the cut on the other side. This saw does just that. I also wanted to be able to cut through wood that might have a nail or two in it without having the blade break. With the TCT blade on this saw, it can do that.
To see how well this saw worked, I cut through a scrap piece of 1/4″-wall angle iron. With no stand yet, I put the Evolution on top of my table saw and turned it on. First of all, it’s a lot quieter than a saw with a sharp blade. Second, it’s as strong as a rock. There is no sound at all. Third, it’s quick. Finally, look at the cut. It looks like a proof coin. Literally. They show reflections from a red marking crayon and an extra-large.22 round I put in front of my workbench to show off this amazing cut. This is what I did when I took the pictures. If your saw has any vibration at all in the shaft, bearings, or base, you won’t get a finish like that on your cut. This saw—nothing. Solid.
One last thing. My saw didn’t have a rubber foot on the right rear corner. Even though it did not effect the stability, I’d thought I’d get one. I contacted Evolution. The saw is made that way. A rubber foot might burn because the right rear catches the majority of the sparks when you cut metal. To avoid any problems, they designed the base to have a bare metal foot in that position. That’s just one example of the attention to detail and quality build that you’ll find in this saw. I discover more and more every time I use it. If you do any kind of metal work that involves cutting, you’ll not find a better saw than this Evolution.
