The Makita 18V Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/2″ Driver-Drill (model XFD10Z, tool only, battery sold separately) has 480 in. lbs. of Max Torque and 25% more speed than the previous model. It has a 4-pole motor that is more efficient and delivers 480 in. lbs. of Max Torque and 25% more speed.

It was 10 years old, but it still worked well. I bought two of these to replace it. The most important thing about this machine is that it has 480 inch lbs. of driver torque, which is more than any battery-powered drill/driver combo I’ve ever seen with that much torque. So if you need a lot of power to drive screws into wood, like pocket hole screws, this is the tool for you. There are more brake settings on this model than there were on the BDF452, which had 1-16. In this case, the keyless chuck can hold drills with a 1/2-inch chuck. It has two speeds and the trigger can be set to change speed. A very bright LED is used to light the work. With a caveat: For those of you who have Makita’s BL series batteries, this machine will accept them. You can use batteries from your old drill with this one, but you’ll need to cut off a small piece of the plastic top of the batteries so that they can pass over a useless metal tab on the drill/driver. This is how it works. They may have put that metal tab in the base of the drill/driver so you couldn’t use old Makita batteries. If you pay attention to where this machine is interfering with the old battery, that won’t be the case at all. Again, this is the best drill/driver out there!
