I am planning, as a school project, to cut some antlers for the students at school to make pendants, bolos, and belt buckles. I have to cut them myself at home to take to school as I am finding antlers are somewhat expensive. Input as to glue or epoxy to make antler stick to metal, finishing of the antler after engraving or just any other thing you can think of that a beginner might need.

I need to cut the main stalk of the antlers, but the saws I’ve tried so far have given unsatisfactory results. I tried a coping saw, not surprisingly it did not leave a smooth cut. I tried my power miter saw, it cut but created a billowing cloud of noxious burnt antler smell.

I’ll have to get a cross cut or plywood blade instead of my rip blade. This has been posted on here before but a good way to cut bone on a table saw is to lower the blade and then put a thin – 1/8 pc of masonite or something similiar over the blade. “A wider blade is nice, but within reason blade tension is perhaps more important than blade width. I just use whatever nearly-worn out blade is on the saw, usually a 1/4″x6ppi.
