I have a Milwaukee 14″ dry cut saw that I actually bought from Northern Tool. If you don’t clamp the material down TIGHT, it crawls as the cut is being made, which is very hard on the blade and results in substandard output. See previous complaint…. 4 Re: Horizontal band saw vs. Dry cut chop saw most chop saws are roughly 50 pounds so id go with a portable band saw plus when you can cut long stock without the fuss off loading it into the clamp of a chop saw. 5 Re: Horizontal band saw vs. Dry cut chop saw If I understand you correctly, you are looking to replace the standard abrasive chop saw with either a freestanding bandsaw that is light and portable or a dry cut saw. 7 Re: Horizontal band saw vs. Dry cut chop saw go with the carbide blade made for steel …. lot less sparks and grinding, but you need a saw that is low rpm around 1400 or vs your cutt off saw witch i prolly 3200- 3600.
