That would typically be used for large bulk purchases of raw wood, where say you intend to make several necks or whatever, then it goes to joiners and planers. In short, bulk to save money, and you can split larger halves with a large bandsaw. If you are building one guitar a year or whatever, I would just purchase smaller wood and go with a table saw.
I’d recommend putting a higher priority on spending more to get a better table saw and less on the band saw. On the other hand, a cheap band saw can usually be tuned up more easily, so the difference between cheap and expensive band saws isn’t as great as with cheap and expensive table saws. While both saws can make straight cuts, that is what the table saw excels at, and you’ll never get as smooth and reproducible straight cut from a band saw.

“I had planned a largely Festool set up using a combination of the MFT and the flexible bench systems described in the Joshua Finn Fine Woodworking article. Largely, I believe in taking the tools to the wood, and having complete flexibility in the space. I’ll have a good jointer and planer, a decent dust collector, and I have both a Jet 14” Band saw and Bosch 4000 Table saw from my old shop. Over the weekend I built 8 Finn style tables working in a garage with both Festool Rail Saws and the Bosch table saw The danger and dust from the table saw really got me grumpy. I haven’t used the Festools long enough to know if I could do without either a better table saw or better ripping band saw.
Not to say bandsaws have cut a lot of fingers of the sleepy and careless but I’d say it can make a wider variety of cuts than almost any other tool in the shop and it’s use is only limited by the user’s imagination. With regard to other tools in the shop, I do not use the bandsaw that much. The bandsaw would be a very good first tool in a shop.
