If you want to start auto detailing, one of the most difficult decisions you have to make is which Dual Action Random Orbital you should get. It’s hard to start or even to upgrade from a cheap one that you may have learned on. You might learn a thing or two from me. There are a lot of great tools out there, but I don’t own any of them, like the Flex or the Torque. I haven’t looked back to this day.

There are things I like about it.

1) The size and weight – it’s a good size for how it works. I don’t use the screw-on handle because I change hands too often. I only have one hand on the black and the other on the vent at the end. But it’s very nice and comfortable, and I can get into small places on cars like under the mirror because I don’t have a long tail end. Because it’s smaller, that doesn’t mean it’s not as good as it used to be.

2) Porter Cable is a well-known company that has a lot of money behind them. It’s possible they came around in 1905 or so. As I said, I did a lot of research, as you can see from this. There is no to very little upkeep on it. The unit is already lubricated with enough high-quality lube to last the life of the unit under normal use. They only recommend that you take it to one of their certified shops every 100 hours of use so they can take it apart, clean it, and look for worn parts to make sure you are safe.

A wheel that lets you set the speed is great. A few weeks ago, I used my friend’s machine to make a 2×2 square. It was nice, but it took a long time because I felt like I was reaching and it had a digital screen with + and – buttons on it. After I spread the product at a low speed, I want to turn it off, get in a good position, set it to a functional speed, and start it up. His always starts at the lowest speed setting, and while it’s running, you have to crank it up. All in all, I think this buffer is great and I love how it works and what I get out of it.

The bad thing.

1) At low speeds, it can be a little hard to control at first, but because these units are so slow, it’s not a big deal or a deal breaker. It’s just the physics of these units.

Two: 1) The foam pad that comes with it is cheap and doesn’t work well for me. It’s easier to buy pads and backing plates with a hook and loop (Velcro) connection so you don’t have to use your wrench every time you change pads. 2. This is just a small thing, but you can get these buffers with other packages. I’m sure the stock pad won’t do any harm. It is just a wax or sealant pad.

If you want to see more video reviews of the Porter Cable 7424xp, you should check out Chemical Guys on YouTube. They have a lot of how-to videos and great products, but they also use the Porter Cable 7424xp a lot in their shop and class.

Porter Cable and Chemical Guys don’t know me. I didn’t write this review or get anything else to review. This is a REAL HONEST REVIEW. As long as you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask them!
