Amazon sold me this DWM 120 last December. I checked to see if it worked. It did, but it was very noisy. This type 2 unit is made in China.
Set it aside for an upcoming project. I bought DeWalt blades and a SWAG table to help me with that project, as well.
We finally finished the project in September 2018; we hung our Band Saw up on a wall. A hammer drill-like noise came from the motor when it was turned on. Sparks and smoke came from the motor as well. Finally, the motor slowed down.
A “spare” screw had been stuck between the armature and the stator windings, destroying the commutator, brushes, and some of the windings. The saw had never even made a single cut. Clearly, there is a problem with the warranty, especially with the advertised 3-year warranty. Following are the steps for a DeWalt warranty claim.
After two attempts with customer service, a prepaid UPS label was sent to a Black and Decker service center in Farmingdale, New York. They received the complete unit and all of its accessories (plus a note and my Amazon receipt) in the original box on Sept. 25, 2018. On Oct. 12, 2018, I called customer service to find out what was going on. A stern person who was eating lunch told me they hadn’t looked at it yet and couldn’t say when it would be returned.
This means I have to file complaints and wait a little longer to move on with my project.
