To make holes in concrete, I needed a hammer drill. It wasn’t very powerful, just a middle of the line hammer drill. I needed it to make a few holes in concrete. All of these things were met by this drill, and it was easy to get the job done. There is very little chance that a 15-amp breaker will be tripped by an 8-amp plug. There is a medium duty extension that can be used, and the SDS-plus bits aren’t too pricey. This tool has an auxiliary handle that can be moved with a twist, and the depth gauge can be retracted. The on/off button also has a variable speed switch built in. The reverse switch is a good thing if/when something gets stuck and flips to either side very quickly. The multi-function switch has three options: rotation with the hammer, hammer only, or rotation only. You can choose which one you want. When you buy an SDS-Plus shaft chuck, the drill will work like a normal drill with a 3 teeth 1/2 inch chuck so wood boring drill bits can be used. Putting the SDS plus bits in the drill is easy. All you have to do is twist and push. A small tube of lubricant is in the case with the SDS bit. It can be used to clean the slots on the bit. Pulling down on the chuck frees the bit. It has a built-in clutch to reduce the torque reaction. All the requirements can be met with this high-quality hammer drill without having to spend a fortune.

SDS PLUS and SDS MAX drill bits could be used with a BOSCH SDS “MAX” hammer drill and an SDS “MAX” to SDS “PLUS” chuck. If you buy the SDS PLUS drill, you can only use SDS PLUS bits with it. I don’t know of any adapters that let you change the chuck from SDS PLUS to SDS MAX.
