In this case, the single-acting pneumatic cylinder’s inlet nipple had been snapped off when it was disassembled to figure out why it didn’t work right out of the box. The whole body of the cylinder is made of plastic, and the inlet nipple or hose barb is part of the molding or casting process, too. There may be about a 16th of an inch of plastic around the diameter where the two pieces of plastic come together. I don’t know who thought that was enough material for a part that was cyclically pressurized, but they’re out of their minds.
Returns are a pain for me, but a whole new cylinder (part number 9R205236) costs only about $10, so I bought one. Some reinforcement will be added. I’ll do it with care, and I’ll see how that works for me. It’s a shame, because the tool is lightweight and small, and I think it would be very useful if it worked. I’m trying to save it, rather than giving up and giving up. If it has a stupid safety, I’ll get rid of that as well. I can already see that it would be a big no-no.
Avoid this one unless you want to do something.
