A good copy of the Kindling Cracker is what it looks like to me now. It looks like the forging is of good quality. My guess is that it won’t split in two or crack.
However, there are two things that could be done to make this product even better. It looks like they didn’t clean and/or sharpen the ax head when it came from the factory. My cutting end had a small chip in it. I’ve used some whetstones I have to sharpen it a little, and it has made it work better. Some of the chips will need a few sharpenings to get rid of without a more aggressive sharpening regimen. Another problem I had with the casting is that one of the three holes to bolt down the base is partly blocked by slag.
People who need to break down small splits could use this tool. Sharpening the blade and doing some quality control would make this a good choice for people who need to do that, too (My usage is for my smoker).
