For my kitchen knives, I bought this to help smooth out some of the concave curves on the blades. It works perfectly for that. The only thing I don’t like about this machine is that it makes a lot of noise when it’s connected to a dust collection system. When the rotating drum is raised, the air exit path is blocked. In the end, there’s a painfully loud whooshing sound that has a lot of high-frequency noise. I need hearing protection because this is one of the most noisy machines in my shop.
It’s a good idea to buy more 4-1/2″ sanding drums at the same time as this one. You only get one of each size with the machine, and it’s a pretty coarse grit.
There was a big change on 6/8/2016. After just a few months, the edge banding around the table has come apart from the table. Not cool. To make a warranty claim, I’m going to Grizzly.
