The lever that changes the rpm range broke. Because the drill comes with a lifetime service agreement, which is different from a warranty, there’s no need to worry.
Ridgid’s lifetime service agreement (registration required) was one of the things that sold me on the company. It doesn’t come with a new tool, but it did help. Among the things it gives you are parts and service for life through many Home Depot stores. It costs you $30 upfront to cover damage caused by abuse, neglect, or anything else that they think was caused by your carelessness. But if those conditions aren’t met, the deposit will be refunded. That’s what they told me. For the last 8 weeks, I haven’t seen the drill at all. I’m sure it will find its way home.
So even though it’s a great drill, I can’t live without it for 8 weeks (and counting). The R86008 for sale here is the same as the one that broke down. It took only two days to get here, and it will be a great backup for when my drill takes a long break again. If I had known about this $37 deal before I sent the original for repair, I would have just thrown it away. Time and trouble I had to go through to get the original to service is worth more to me than the $37 I spent on this replacement, which works perfectly and comes with everything a new in-box unit does except for a battery or charger.
