For $50 or less, this belt sander isn’t bad. The sander isn’t going to cost you $200. However, for the price, it’s a good tool.
Use this sander to sand the rails and floor of your old 14×14 deck. In the end, I could remove most of the old sealant, as well as the rough parts. If you do a project like this with old, rough wood, you should get some 36-grit sandpaper. Don’t use 80-grit until you’re done with 36-grit. If you use the right grit of sandpaper, this tool is strong enough to do the job. I ran the sander all the time, except when I had to empty the sawdust out of the machine.

– Cons: The vent that leads to the dust collector quickly became blocked with dust. I looked at the instructions to figure out how to clean it up. In the directions, it said to have it checked out by Wen. Really? Nobody will service a $40 tool. There was no way I could clean the vent’s back side. This is a big flaw in the design. Finally, I figured out that the only way to clean the vent was to use long tweezers and pull the junk out of the vent. This worked, but it took longer than it should have. Second, even though the dust collector picks up sawdust, the belt sander also throws some of the sawdust right in front of you. People don’t like this. In the end, I hit the stay-on button and then turned the sander around and sanded in the opposite direction. In other words: If the vent isn’t clear, this sander blows dust in your face even if there isn’t any. It gets even worse when the vent is clogged.
Bottom line: If I paid more for the sander, I would return it. At this price, I’m going to keep it. The motor works well. I just wish it didn’t make sawdust fall in your face, and I wish the vent wasn’t so hard to clean. At this price, I don’t think you’ll find a better sander. Turn it around when you sand and use tweezers to clean the vent when you do that.
