Most of the time, I don’t write about products that I buy. Because I didn’t like how this product worked with my Dewalt DWE 402 grinder, I’m writing this review in the hope that other people will look for a different tool.

When I bought this shroud, I was going to use a Dewalt DWE402 4-1/2-inch grinder. Shroud: The shroud doesn’t fit that grinder because it doesn’t sit deep enough on the grinder shaft to allow attachments for the grinder to spin freely around it. This is why the shroud doesn’t work. It is the lip of the shroud’s brush housing that wheels hit.

I could be attaching the shroud to the grinder incorrectly, which is possible. But since the instructions are just a single page with 8 very basic drawings (with no explanation of what the picture is trying to show), they won’t help with any fitment issues. And the URL that the product’s scan code takes the user to doesn’t have any information that helps with this.

There is a problem with fitment on the Dewalt DWE402 grinder because of the mechanism that moves the grinder guard. I should say that. You can’t see it, but that mechanism is right next to the shaft, and its housing and spring seem to keep its shroud from sitting low enough to let the wheel attach to it.

I’m not going to completely get rid of the shroud. It looks like the shroud is made well and isn’t very expensive. If it fits your grinder, then it’s probably a good thing if you buy it. However, if you buy it and it doesn’t fit your grinder, even though it says it’s “universal,” it doesn’t have any value. You can spend a lot of time trying to get it to fit when, in the end, it just won’t.
