The Makita 5″ SJSII High Power Angle Grinder (GA5042C) has a lot of power, but it also has a lot of convenience, comfort, and safety features that make it last longer in the workplace. In addition, it can be used to cut or grind ferrous metal; remove paint and rust; clean up shipyards; polish metal; cut steel; cut brick and masonry; and more. Gear drive system SJSII is used in the GA5042C to keep the motor and gears safe from damage. When the wheel is forced to stop, the SJSII reduces the force on the gear, which helps keep the motor and gears safe. Besides that, the SJSII also has a leaf spring and cam gear drive mechanism that is designed to reduce vibration for more comfortable use over a long time. The 12 AMP motor has a range of 2,800-11,000 RPM so it can be used for a wide range of tasks. Labyrinth construction protects the motor with a complex set of channels that keep dust and other things from getting inside. Add-ons include epoxy on both sides of the armature coil and a powder-coating on the field, which protects it from damage. Part of this makes a barrier as it turns. It’s designed to keep dust and debris from getting into the tool, which will make it last longer.

The handle of the grinder is missing a cap, and it looks like it’s not the same as the picture. Cord is 16 gauge and the rubber casing is very thin. When bent, it kinks and makes a mess. I don’t think this cord will last very long when I use it with an angle grinder. There is no safety on the switch, so if you plug in the grinder while the switch is on, it will start. Not what I would expect from Makita. With the grinding wheel and flap disk that came with this, I have to say this Angle Grinder did a great job at getting rid of rust and metal. Wow!
