1st UPDATE: I changed my review to 5 stars. I used this to remove an anode rod from a water heater, which is notoriously hard to do. When I thought it wouldn’t work, this thing did. You don’t want a 24″ breaker bar on your water heater because the torque might bend it, which could cause pipes to break or something else to break. Thus, an impact wrench is the best tool for taking out anode rods. If Metabo would step up its game and make an 18v High Torque impact wrench to compete with Milwaukee’s tool, I’d be a happy person. Until then, this Metabo version is a good Mid-Torque tool for those of us who already own tools from the Metabo/Hitachi 18v line of tools.

Take a look at this: I took a risk and asked for a new one. Sure enough, the replacement unit worked as expected, which means that the original unit that you got was broken. This Impact Wrench has less torque than the Triple Hammer Impact Driver with a 1/2″ drive adapter, but I’ll keep it because it’s so easy to use.

Message to Metabo: if you buy a high-quality manufacturer like Hitachi and then change the name, you have to live up to your promise. Metabo hasn’t worked. The last year since Metabo took over, I haven’t been very happy with the quality of the products I’ve bought, and the prices have gone up a lot (your 10″ table saw is an example of no change except name & the price has nearly doubled in the past year). In this field, hype and not being able to live up to expectations is the kiss of death. Contractors have a lot of faith in their tools. Take care not to give us a good reason to have sex with Makita.

Hopefully, Metabo does the right thing and takes my broken machine out of the supply chain so someone else doesn’t have to deal with a broken machine.

A 1 star review was the first one. Twin Hitachi Triple Hammer Impact Driver: I have this tool, and it is very good. That works great when you put a 1/2” socket adapter on it. It doesn’t have any trouble getting rid of a tire that’s been tightened to 75 ft lbs with that. When the Impact Wrench is set to its highest setting, it doesn’t move the thing and starts to smoke, which isn’t a good thing. The answer is no. Maybe, but it’s being sent back. Until now, all of my 18v tools have been made by Hitachi, and I haven’t had any problems with them at all. The only two tools I’ve recently bought from the Metabo brand haven’t worked.
