I don’t write bad reviews very often, but sometimes I do. In this case, I have to do it. Below, I explain why I had to be very careful when I gave this movie one star.
The saw has two parts: the saw itself and the power source.
Because the power supply is the most dangerous part, I’ll talk about that first, then talk about the rest. Both the 12 Volt and 120 Volt screw terminals shown in the picture are unprotected, which means that shorts could happen. More seriously, there is no stress relief when you connect 120 Volts. The cable could be ripped out, which could cause a short or an electric shock. I think that not having a way to deal with stress is against most codes. This is what I think the vendor is doing. They are using a generic power supply that is meant to be put in a safe place.
Some changes could make the saw unit even better.
1. Cheap wing-nuts are used to keep the fence in place. The nuts could be more useful if they were more solid.
2. The sawdust comes out of a hole on the side of the building. It would be nice to have a way to connect the hose of a vacuum cleaner to the wall.
Rubber feet are on the saw. These don’t keep the saw from moving when it’s being used. A way to keep the saw in place on the workbench would be very useful, as well.
It’s in front of the unit next to the switch to turn it on or off. The best place to put it would be in the back.
5. The 12 Volt connection has a 120 Volt plug. The motor would be killed if a 120 Volt cable was accidentally plugged in.
It has a hole on the side that gives unprotected access to the inside electrical parts. Not a good idea.
With a few simple changes, this could have been a great little saw. As it is, it is very dangerous. They wouldn’t be hard to fix, and I think that the designers didn’t see them at all. used the saw in a shop. Instead of liking this saw, I’m giving it back.
