This is a fantastic little saw in every way. Even so, anyone who has worked with circular saws knows that there are important details to consider, and you must choose the ones that are best for you. Normally, I prefer to use a saw with two hands and the kerf pointing toward the sawyer, while leaning over to watch the cut line; however, this Makita saw is best used one-handed with the kerf pointing away from the sawyer. For this, a blade on the left, such as the one on this saw, is ideal. Cutting straight with one hand, without letting the blade guard’s retraction throw you off course, becomes the most difficult part of the process. One of the most important features of this blade guard is that it retracts more smoothly than most (and symmetrically; it does not push your cut off line). The visual markings on the base are of high quality. In general, this is the best one-handed saw I’ve ever used. And I’ve made extensive use of it.
