I purchased this as a low-cost entry point into the world of Japanese Kanna culture (plane). I discovered that removing the cutting blade (iron) with a reasonable number of taps of a hammer was extremely difficult/almost impossible. Although the wood had been bruised significantly, the plane appears to be in good condition and usable, so I will make some adjustments and fine-tune it before it is ready to be used for the first time. Because of the difficulty in setting up the machine and the level of skill required, I would not recommend this to someone who is just getting started in woodworking.
