3018Pro-M can be used to engrave wood, plastic, acrylic, PCB, CCL, and paper, among other materials. Hard metal, jade, and other hard materials cannot be engraved with a drill bit.
This is a fairly standard 3018 CNC machine in terms of design. It’s no different from the other alternatives available to you.
Although the preassembly appears to be a good idea and will save you some time, be prepared to disassemble some of it in order to complete the full assembly. It is impossible to attach the top portion in the manner in which it is delivered. The uprights will be able to be separated enough so that the base can be attached if the screws on the knob side of the uprights are taken out. It’s then a simple matter of putting everything back together.
Be prepared for a set of assembly instructions that are mediocre at best. They break up about halfway through the assembly, leaving you to either guess how to finish it or do some online research to find out how to finish it. Fortunately, because they have a large user base, it is simple to find tutorials and videos on how to use them.
Also, be prepared for the possibility of missing components. I received a rather large screw kit in the mail. But the problem is that it wasn’t the right decision. My collection has grown to include a large number of screws in a variety of sizes, but there were no M5 screws included (which are the ones you actually need). Fortunately (have you noticed a pattern here?) I do a lot of electronics building and tinkering, so I had some spares on hand.
There is no way to contact the company directly to request additional hardware. Despite the fact that I submitted feedback to Amazon, I have no idea whether or not it will actually result in me receiving what I require. It will be my pleasure to update the star ratings if this occurs.
Don’t even bother trying to use the bits because they’re worthless.
Overall, this is neither better nor worse than the other 20 3018 options available on Amazon.com. It is a collection of mediocre products, but they are all suitable for small/light-duty CNC engraving. I would have given this a three-star rating if all of the components had been included, and/or if there had been a way to actually contact them.
