Incredibly lightweight, Makita’s 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Jig Saw (model XVJ03) seamlessly integrates precision and power while maintaining the lowest overall weight in its class. The XVJ03 is equipped with a number of precision and comfort features that enable it to deliver precise jig saw cutting performance. These features include less vibration and noise, which allows for greater control and comfort. The 18V Lithium-Ion series, powered by an 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style battery, is part of Makita’s growing 18V Lithium-Ion product line, which includes the world’s largest cordless tool line-up. With the fastest charge times in their respective categories, Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries allow users to spend more time working and less time waiting for their batteries to charge. Makita developed Star Protection Computer Controls in order to improve tool performance while also extending battery life. Star Protection is a type of communication technology that allows a tool and battery that are both equipped with Star Protection to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions while in use in order to prevent overloading, over-discharging, and overheating from occurring. Alternatively, Makita 18V LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries can be used to provide increased versatility; batteries bearing a star symbol on the outside indicate they contain Star Protection on the inside.

Makita is the manufacturer of all of my tools (at the very least cordless). After spending a week on the set of the first Godzilla movie with my stick battery 9Volt screw gun UNDERWATER, I became a believer in the monster. It continued to work for years after that, albeit with a rusted chuck. I upgraded to 18V tools and it was still running like a champ the following day. I’m not sure what has happened to the company recently, but I’m guessing that their manufacturing has moved to China, just like everyone else. This one has a cheap acrylic plastic blade removal guard that rotates to the side, allowing the blade to be easily removed. If your saw jumps or comes into contact with something, the blade will simply snap off, leaving the blade loose and floppy after it. This is a significant flaw in the tool, and it was disappointing to discover it.
