If not for the fact that I have had to deal with Makita customer service and the fact that they will not cover my hammer drill under the 3 year warranty that they claim it comes with, I would have given this Makita set a 5 star rating. I purchased this combo kit in March of 2018, and I use the impact driver on a regular basis because it is lightweight, compact, and has a lot of power. The fact that the hammer drill is a little bulky and that I haven’t really used it much is what bothers me about it. I’ve only used this drill a handful of times for small projects because I’m a homeowner rather than a professional contractor. The first issue was that it started cutting off at random while I was drilling some pilot holes, which was very frustrating. Then the directional switch stopped working, so there was no way to go forward or back. So I called Makita, and they told me to ship it to them at my expense, and they would take a look. A month has elapsed since the warranty was originally issued. I just received it back, and they informed me that this is not covered under warranty and that the motor has been burned. As a result, I will never purchase another Makita product again because they do not stand behind their product. If your product fails to perform as expected for a homeowner who has barely used it, don’t label it as contractor grade.
