Because the M12 ProPEX® Expansion Tool has an auto-rotating head, it can be operated with one hand, making it extremely convenient. A compact right angle design makes it simple to install tubing in tight spaces, and the quick cam mechanism provides precise, continuous expansion for ProPEX connections ranging from 3/8″ to 1″. The M12 ProPEX Expansion tool, which is designed specifically for Uponor ProPEX, is built to make effortless installations faster than any other tool currently available.

This is an excellent tool. I purchased it at the time I was installing baseboard heating in my new addition. I’ve primarily used it for 3/4″ hepex fittings, but I’ve also used it for some 1/2″ fittings as well.

My first purchase was the Wirsbo Hand expander tool, which I used during the renovation of my home. It did its job, but because of the angle at which the handles had to be moved, it was a little difficult to maneuver it into tighter spaces. Wirsbo requires a slight rotation for every expansion to ensure that the pipe is properly expanded, which made it particularly difficult.

I found this tool on Amazon for a price that I thought was reasonable enough that I couldn’t pass it up. It was perfect for the renovation job I had in mind. The short version is that it’s incredible.

All of the heads from my original tool were a perfect fit for this. A cautionary note is that the original expander tool heads do not have the additional “feature” that Milwaukee has incorporated into the newer version of this tool. Additionally, the Milwaukee heads have a rotating ring that, when used in conjunction with the in/out expander function, causes a slight rotation of the head for each in/out motion. Alternatively, you can achieve the same result by disassembling your original heads and dremeling a small groove into each of the lobes so that the rotating ring can grip and spin it.

This tool is small enough to fit easily into tight spaces and can expand the PEX in a matter of seconds. You can hang it from yourself while you are getting everything ready because it is lightweight and has a hook. An indicator for battery life is located on the side of the device, which is extremely convenient. I used the smaller m12 batteries with a capacity of 2000 mAh and was able to get several hours of use out of them.
