Throughout my 40-year career as an engineer for a major equipment manufacturer, I’ve worked with a variety of grinders. In most cases, the excellent Baldor line of industrial 10 or 12 inch grinders has provided the most useful experience. Other grinders have either lacked the power to handle heavy grinding, or the fineness to sharpen fine tools, or a combination of the two. In order to avoid spending $2,000 on a Baldor, I decided to give the Metabo a shot. It was delivered on time and in a well-constructed double box. Everything was perfectly aligned and fit together during the assembly process. I turned on the motor by placing a coin on top of the round motor housing and turning it on. I didn’t have to worry about balancing the wheels because the coin didn’t move. The 1,800 rpm speed is ideal for sharpening fine tools while still being fast enough to handle heavy grinding tasks as well. This is a fantastic tool that is also a fantastic value.
