After going through some resawing difficulties myself I couldn’t agree with AHH’s advice more.

If you want to make tight turns on band saw with blades 1/8-3/16″ blades, none of the guides does a really great job, with cool block being my choice. The brake is also convenient to stop the blade when you need to make adjustments for a different cut, to back out of a cut that you don’t go all the way through, or to remove small pieces near the blade. An additional plus is the longer blade which means you do more cutting with each revolution and thus the blade should last longer.
For resawing, the width of the blade should be close to the maximum the bandsaw will handle. On one forum, one person had great results with the Laguna Resaw King, but another person’s Resaw King blade broke, and Laguna said it was his fault for excess tension, even though they had refused to specify the recommended tension. Most bandsaw gauges don’t specify what thickness blade they are calibrated for, which is why they may be perfect for one blade, but are often misleading for other blades.
That being said, a good quality 14″ saw, well tuned can do a lot. I’ve cut most of my blanks on that saw for 5 years now, but I use a correct blade for green wood, and have the saw well tuned, so I get optimal performance from it. It has the original carter style roller bearings that came on the saw.
