There are usually some time lags between when I write a review and when I write one. Before I buy anything, I read over as many reviews as I can, especially the 1-star, 2-star, and 3-star reviews, if they are thoughtful reviews that I think are worth reading (one can always get a lemon from any manufacturer). This drill/driver has been my go-to tool for four weeks now, which means I can give a good review. When it comes to power tools, I’m not very good at them, so just remember that. I’ve also made my front door, outside side garage door, garage door that goes into the house, and my bedroom door more secure in the last four weeks. That means I used #10 x 3″ long screws to make the hinges and strike plates more strong. I also put quick-flip door locks on each of my four doors, each with the same #10 x 3″ screws (three for each lock). Those locks are great, but their screws were too short or of poor quality. This drill/driver isn’t going to be able to tell you how strong it is right away. So how long this drill/driver will last, especially for a weekend warrior like me, isn’t clear. I’ve had good luck with a light-duty drill/driver from the same company, and I’ve used that $30 drill/driver for almost a decade.

Many things about this drill/driver are good. It’s very light and feels good in your hand. For four weeks, I used it a lot and it still had a charge. It’s not easy to drive 3″ long x #10 screws through the frame, the studs, and the wood doors, even if you drill a pilot hole first. My 1/8″ drill bit is only 1-1/2″ long. My light-duty drill/driver couldn’t do it without a lot of trouble. Of course, getting the right screws (I like torx-head screws) and scraping them over a slightly damp bar of soap was a big help. My jaw dropped when I saw how quickly and smoothly these screws went in, and without any strain or kickback at all. Having a two-speed drill/driver is pretty standard, but it can be very useful to have one. In general, the 11-position clutch is a good thing. It will take some time to figure out which setting is best for each job. I also found the LED light to be very useful. It helps to light up the area where it is needed the most.

Not at all. This drill/driver does not come in a case. Not at all. You don’t get a set of drive bits or drill bits with this one. It comes with one double-ended drive bit (phillips/slot-head). No, you don’t get a battery or a charger. When I used to use a light-duty drill/driver, it had a quick-insertion, quick-release hex chuck, which I really liked. I could quickly put a little in and quickly get it out, which would save me time. With this new drill/driver, you have to tighten the chuck by hand to get it to work. It’s not that big of a deal, though, because I bought a drive bit package (mostly for the torx-head bits). It came with a quick-release adapter hex bit.

All in all, I think this drill/driver is a great deal. It’s going for 59 bucks at the time of this review. As someone who works on small projects around the house on the weekends, I think this is the best model for you to buy. If you’re a professional or do a lot of big work, you should probably use professional tools. In terms of how I rate this drill/driver, I give it 9 out of 10 points, or a 5 star. How can you go wrong at this price? If it lasts a reasonable amount of time, you should buy it.
