The BLACK+DECKER BDCMTR Matrix Router Attachment has a spindle lock button that makes it easy to change bits with just one wrench at a time. It has a variable speed that allows it to perform at the right speed for each job. With the help of this router attachment, you can use any tool in the BLACK+DECKER Matrix line, like the BDEDMT and BDCDMT112.

I was most excited about the router out of all the Matrix attachments I’ve bought. I was also the most disappointed with it, though. There aren’t any edge guides or anything like that on this tool, which makes it difficult to cut straight lines through hard woods. This is likely due to the high torque of the matrix motor and the low RPM of the tool. The router attachment is limited to 9,000 RPM, which seems like a lot of time. You can, however, do a “straight” route, but you’ll need to have your wood firmly clamped down and a good two-handed grip on the drill body, because the bits will kick like a mule when they hit.

It can also be a pain to change bits, because the plastic adjustable shroud seems to always be at odds with the wrench and collar.

I’ll keep it for small or quick projects, but I’ll probably buy a dedicated router in the future. I can’t honestly say that anyone should use it as their only router or use it as a substitute for the real thing.
